Ella is the most visited town in Hill Country among foreign travellers. During the drive from the train station to our guesthouse I was shocked to see how touristy such a small town can get. The cafés and restaurants are “westernised” and there are countless guesthouses and B&Bs.

2 days in Nuwara Eliya – Sri Lanka

Did you know Sri Lanka was previously called Ceylon, under British colonial rule until they gained their independence in 1972. Does the word “Ceylon” remind you of something? Tea? Yes, right! The rainy, humid and cool temperatures of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country make the perfect conditions for high-quality tea. And Nuwara Eliya is the hearth of the Hill Country.

2 days in Kandy, Sacred City of Sri Lanka

Kandy is probably part of every Sri Lanka travel itinerary. The reason is mostly the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the central train station to start the epic scenic train ride to Ella. I also included this historical city to my Sri Lanka itinerary and can tell you for sure, I did not regret it.

Ancient City Anuradhapura – Sri Lanka

Anuradhapura, the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka is one of the oldest cities in the world. No wonder! Anuradhapura was the capital Sri Lanka, from 4th century BC till 11th century AD. Today it is a UNESCO  World Heritage Site and a sacred place for Buddhism.
